Part 29 - And after step 18?

April 21st 2007 15:20
Je became a man. He hadn’t told anyone, and despite being several steps into Love Making Scenario No. 582, his husband La hadn’t noticed.

“There’s something I have to tell you,” he lifted the bed sheet and peered into the darkness for La. There were parts of his body, but Je could't find his head. Hearing a snort form the other end of the bed he reached around and lifted up a roll of flab. “There you are,” he sighed slightly relieved. There was a time when, during the excitement of an amorous encounter, La completely lost his head in his left armpit, it took three doctors and an excellent chiropractor to sort him out again.

“Can it wait my love? I’m up to step number 17 and it is somewhat complex, and don’t forget you will need your senses about you for number 18.”

Je sat up in the bed and leant against the pillows, “I think we should talk before we go any further.” With a resigned sigh, La heaved himself over to his side of the bed and covered himself with the sheet. “It must be important.”

“Very,” said Je, relieved that La was taking him seriously. “I have done something and I want you to know that I have been thinking about it for some time. My decision was not an easy one and although I did not consult you I have taken your feelings into account, but I feel that my feelings on the matter take a higher precedence over yours so have made my decision on my own and acted accordingly.” He was relieved to have that off his chest.

La moved to him and kissed his cheek, “Come to the point.”

“The point is … I am now a man!” as he said it there was a loud and urgent knock on the door. La wasn’t completely certain he had heard right, and deciding it was better to ignore Je than to ask for confirmation he yelled, “Coming!” and leapt from the bed, quickly wiping his mouth as he lumbered to the door.

Hu and Ru burst into the room as soon as the latch was released.

“Bo’s mum and dad are orbiting the planet and Stupid (the bloody) Ship has launched 6 missiles at them!” Hu garbled in one breath.

“What she means is,” Ru, a little more calm, said, “We need beer!”

“What makes you think I have beer?” asked La indignantly throwing a flap of the sheet over his shoulder and returning to the bed.

“Oh come on La,” Ru followed him, “I’ve known you a long time and never have you ever taken only your share. When we were at the all you can eat tofu restaurant at the casino, remember? You ate all you could eat then stuffed my pockets with more food for in the lift. At your wedding you ordered two wedding cakes, so there was one you didn’t have to share. When it comes to your stomach, you have always found a way of sneaking a little bit extra. So where did you hide the beer?

“Quickly La,” Interjected Hu, “we’ve only got minutes before the Gantuar’s are destroyed.”

Normally La wouldn’t give in, but he was happier to get involved in this drama than clear the room, return to his wife and find out exactly what she meant when she said she was a man. He walked to a closet and took out three cases of beer. “I snuck it in before wel went to the pub,” he confessed.

“Brilliant!” said Ru. “Now, let’s get drinking, what ever happened to us when we drank beer before is bound to happen again, as was evidenced by your flying La, so we need to drink beer and stop the bombs from blowing up.”

Je didn’t feel like drinking, he wanted everyone to go away, he didn’t care about Bo’s parents. He wanted to know what La was thinking. But to keep up the pretence until there was time to be alone, he took a bottle from Hu and drank from it.

“Drink quickly,” Hu said, then looked at Je again, “You did it, didn’t you?”

“Yes,” said Je.

“And La?”

“I don’t know yet.”

“Drink your beer, help us save the Gantuar’s then we can talk about it.”

Though the beer was warm, the first round of drinks was quickly finished, and the second, third and fourth.

Half way through his fifth bottle Ru said, “I don’t know why I’m drinking! How am I going to help when all I can do is read minds?”

“Breathing fire isn’t much use either,” agreed Je.

“Ru aside from reading minds perhaps you can also transmit thoughts. Keep drinking and see if you can contact Ga Gantuar. La, get into a space suit and prepare to fly like you’ve never flown before. I want everyone outside in two minutes. Je, help me carry the beer I’ll need you to super heat the rest of these before I launch La into orbit.”

Two very short minutes later all were assembled outside the ship.

La looked at Je and thought, ‘Where do I fit in your life now?’
